Hosted in Nairobi — running when your laptop isn't

Forex VPS Hosting in Kenya

Your terminals keep trading when your power and your Wi-Fi don't.

A Forex VPS is a Windows or Linux server in our Nairobi data centre that you connect to over RDP or SSH. You install MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader or your own bot on it, close the window, and it keeps running — on data-centre power and a data-centre connection instead of the socket in your flat and the router on your desk. Deployment takes under 60 seconds, you get a dedicated IPv4 your broker sees every time you log in, and you are billed in Kenyan Shillings, so the only foreign exchange you deal with is the kind you meant to.

Network

Two connections, and only one of them is about you

There are two connections in a VPS trading setup and they do entirely different jobs. Running them together is how forex hosting pages end up promising things they cannot deliver.

The first is between you and the server. You open RDP from a laptop in Nairobi — on Safaricom Home Fibre, Faiba, Zuku, Poa or Mawingu, or over mobile data — and that connection decides how the charts feel under your hand: how quickly a window redraws, how long a click takes to register. A server in Nairobi is on your side of the ocean. The session leaves your laptop, crosses the city, and arrives — the charts redraw under your hand as though the machine were beside the desk, which in every way that matters to you it is.

The second is between the server and your broker, and Nairobi does nothing for it. Retail forex order flow is matched in a small number of buildings, and the ones that matter for most brokers are Equinix LD4 in London and NY4 in New Jersey. Our regions are Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Lagos, and none of them is in one of those buildings. If minimal latency to a matching engine is the requirement, buy a machine in the same building as the venue. This one is bought for a different reason, and it is the reason most retail accounts actually need.

The shape of the path out is worth knowing too: every Kenyan subsea cable lands at Mombasa and traffic is backhauled roughly 480 km inland to Nairobi, so the session your server opens to an offshore broker begins by going to the coast.

What a Nairobi trading server actually buys

A machine that stays on. Data-centre power, a connection you neither own nor have to keep alive, and a terminal still logged in at 02:00 when your building is dark and your laptop is shut. Fills, spreads and slippage belong to your broker and the venue it matches in, and no hosting decision anywhere moves them. Uptime is the part hosting decides — and for a retail account running Expert Advisors overnight, uptime is the part that costs money when it goes.

Payments

Pay for the trading server in shillings

Most forex VPS providers bill monthly in US dollars, which means a card, a foreign-transaction fee, and a conversion at whatever rate your bank used that day — a recurring currency cost sitting on top of a trading account you opened precisely to control your currency exposure. Kenya prices here are in KES and you are billed in KES, by M-Pesa, bank transfer or card.

The price on the page is the price

2 GB Windows plan is KES 3,195 a month with the Windows Server 2022 Standard licence inside it, and a Linux plan for a headless bot starts at KES 2,195. Nothing converts on the way, and no foreign-transaction fee arrives on the statement afterwards.

A payment that fails quietly switches your terminals off

This is the reason billing currency matters more on a trading server than on a web server. A foreign-currency card has failure modes a local rail does not — an expired card, a bank's fraud rule, a limit nobody told you about — and a lapsed forex VPS is a VPS that has stopped running your Expert Advisors. Paying in shillings from a rail you already use every day removes that whole category of problem.

Bank transfer for the larger amounts

The bigger Windows plans and an annual invoice — ten months for twelve — are amounts a bank transfer suits better than a wallet. M-Pesa, bank transfer and card are all supported for Kenyan customers.

Platforms

Run any trading platform

Connect over RDP or SSH, install your platform in minutes, and it keeps running when you disconnect. Most traders pick a Windows plan; algorithmic traders running their own code often pick Linux.

MetaTrader 4

The classic. Install your broker's MT4 terminal over RDP and let your Expert Advisors trade around the clock.

MetaTrader 5

Multi-asset trading with more timeframes and a faster strategy tester — runs exactly as it does on your desktop.

cTrader & broker terminals

cTrader, NinjaTrader, or whatever desktop platform your broker provides — if it runs on Windows, it runs here.

Bots & broker APIs

Headless algos in Python or any language on a Linux plan, talking straight to your broker's API — no desktop needed.

One 2 GB Windows plan comfortably runs one or two terminals with a few EAs — resize up any time as your setup grows.

Built for trading

Everything a trading desk needs

The same NVMe platform behind our VPS range, tuned to what matters when real money is on the line: uptime, a stable connection, and a server that's always where your broker expects it.

Always-on, 24/7

Your terminals and EAs keep trading when your laptop is off — backed by a 99.9% uptime SLA.

Low-latency network

1 Gbps ports with unlimited local traffic, on data-centre connectivity — not home broadband.

Dedicated IPv4

A fixed public IP your broker always recognises — no flagged logins from changing addresses.

NVMe SSD storage

Fast disks keep charts, ticks, and backtests responsive even with several terminals open.

Full RDP or SSH access

Full administrator rights on Windows over RDP, or full root with SSH on Linux. Your server, all of it.

Windows license included

Windows plans ship with licensed, activated Windows Server 2022 — the price you see is the full price.

Free DDoS protection

Always-on network-layer mitigation included on every plan at no extra cost.

Snapshots & backups

Snapshot a working setup before changing an EA, and roll back in a click if it misbehaves.

Deploy in 60 seconds

Your server is live in under a minute — you can be charting on it within the hour.

Regions

Nairobi is home. The other two are there when you need them.

ke-1a is in Nairobi, and for a Kenyan business that is most of the argument. Your customers arrive on Safaricom, on Faiba, on Zuku, on Poa — 2.65 million fixed subscriptions and 84.1 million active SIMs, nearly all of them inside the country. Lineserve peers at KIXP, the neutral exchange TESPOK runs across four Nairobi facilities, so traffic between your instance and another of its 136 networks is handed over a few kilometres away. A round trip that starts and finishes inside the metro is typically around 2 ms.

That matters because of where Kenya's bandwidth comes ashore. Every international subsea cable lands at Mombasa — SEACOM, EASSy, TEAMS, PEACE, DARE1 and LION2 — and the capacity is hauled roughly 480 km inland before it reaches a Nairobi rack. Anything leaving the country still makes that trip. Domestic traffic takes the other route entirely, exchanged in Nairobi between networks in the same city, and choosing ke-1a decides which of those two journeys your checkout depends on.

Dar es Salaam and Lagos sit on the same account, the same API and the same shilling invoice. Open tz-1a when you start selling into Tanzania and want the data held there under Tanzanian law, or ng-1a when Lagos becomes a market rather than a pin on a map. They are also where a copy goes when you want one outside Kenya — a standby database, a backup bucket — which makes disaster recovery a configuration change instead of a second supplier.

Support

A Nairobi number, and East Africa Time all year

Kenya has its own line: +254 119 039 063. Alongside it are [email protected] and the ticket system, and Lineserve Limited keeps an office on Utalii Lane, View Park Towers, in the Nairobi CBD. A supplier with a street address in your own city is a different kind of counterparty from a web form and a billing address in another hemisphere.

Kenya runs on East Africa Time, UTC+3, and has never observed daylight saving. That reads like trivia until you are the one holding the phone. Business hours here mean the same thing in January and in July; nothing slides by an hour twice a year because another country changed its clocks. When your checkout starts throwing 502s at 09:20 on a Tuesday, it is 09:20 for whoever picks up — an ordinary working morning in the same city, rather than the small hours of somebody's Monday night, eight time zones west.

The other half of local support is vocabulary, not hours. The person you reach knows what a Safaricom callback is, what KIXP has to do with the trace you are staring at, and why your finance team wants a KRA PIN on the invoice. None of that has to be explained before the actual problem can be. Buy from somewhere that has never sold into Kenya and the first twenty minutes of every serious ticket go on describing the country.

Data residency

Where your trading data sits

A trading server holds less personal data than most workloads on this site: your terminal, your credentials, your history and your strategy files. It is your data, on your server, in Nairobi, and it stays in Kenya unless you move it.

Kenya's Data Protection Act applies to anyone processing personal data of people in Kenya whether or not they are established here, so hosting abroad does not put a Kenyan trader or a Kenyan company outside it. Hosting in Nairobi means the Act's cross-border transfer conditions do not arise for that data. That is data residency: your strategy files, your trade history and your broker credentials on a machine inside Kenya, under Kenyan law.

The line moves if you run a copy-trading service, a signals room, or anything else holding other people's names, phone numbers or account details. Then you are a data controller in your own right, with your own registration and compliance obligations. We supply the location; the rest of it sits on your side of the line.

Who runs here

Four setups we size plans around

One trader, one or two terminals

A single MT4 or MT5 install with a handful of Expert Advisors, left running through the London and New York sessions while you are at work or asleep. The 2 GB Windows plan — 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe — is KES 3,195 a month and is where most single-terminal setups start.

Copy trading and signal following

A terminal that has to be connected whenever the account it mirrors is trading. This is the setup most exposed to a laptop lid closing at the wrong moment — and, if you are the one publishing the signals rather than following them, the setup that makes you a data controller for your subscribers.

Algorithmic traders running their own code

Python or C# against a broker API, headless, no desktop involved. A Linux plan is the cheaper and cleaner answer here: the 2 GB plan is KES 2,195 against 2 GB Windows plan's KES 3,195, and the difference is a Windows licence you would not be using.

Small desks and educators

Several terminals, several accounts, and a strategy tester running alongside live charts. The 4 GB Windows plan at KES 5,240 and the 8 GB Windows plan at KES 9,330 are the sizes bought here, because backtesting and live charting compete for the same CPU.

Migrating

Moving a trading server to Nairobi

From an overseas forex VPS

The usual reason to move is the bill — a monthly dollar charge plus conversion for a machine you never see — and KES billing removes the currency step. The move itself is a copy job: install your terminal on the new server, bring the MQL4 or MQL5 folder across so the Expert Advisors, presets and templates come with it, log into your broker account, and confirm the new address is accepted before you cancel the old server. Run both for a few days if you are cautious; a month of overlap costs less than a missed week.

From the PC at home

This is the more common Kenyan move and the one where the argument is strongest. A trading PC at home depends on the power staying on, the router staying up, Windows not restarting for updates overnight, and nobody unplugging anything to charge a phone. A hosted instance depends on none of those — and you get your laptop back, because the trading is happening somewhere else.

The honest limit of the move: hosting in Nairobi will not make your orders fill faster, will not reduce slippage and will not change your spread. Those belong to your broker and the venue it matches in. What changes is that the terminal is running when you are not.

FAQ

Questions, answered

A VPS keeps your trading platform running 24/7 on a stable server connection, independent of your own computer and power or internet outages. Expert Advisors and copy trading keep executing even when your laptop is off, and orders leave from a data centre connection rather than home broadband.

Yes. Connect to your Windows VPS over RDP and install MT4, MT5, cTrader, or any terminal your broker provides, exactly as you would on a desktop. You can run more than one terminal on the same server — just size the plan to match.

Choose Windows for MT4, MT5, cTrader and other desktop terminals — it's what most traders need, and the license is included. Choose Linux if you run headless algorithmic bots or connect to broker APIs with your own code in Python or another language.

The 2 GB Windows plan comfortably runs one or two MetaTrader terminals with a few Expert Advisors. Running many terminals, heavy indicators, or backtesting alongside live trading? Step up to 4 GB Windows plan or the 8 GB Windows plan for more vCPU and RAM — you can resize later with minimal downtime.

Yes. The server keeps running when you close the RDP or SSH session — your terminals, Expert Advisors, and bots trade around the clock. You only reconnect to check in or make changes.

Yes. Windows plans include a fully licensed, activated Windows Server 2022 Standard. The price you see is the full price — nothing to bring or key in.

Yes — every plan includes one dedicated public IPv4, so your broker always sees you connecting from the same address. That keeps IP-based security checks and account protections happy, plus a free /64 IPv6 block.

No. Execution speed depends on the distance between the server and your broker's matching engine, and most retail brokers match in London or New York rather than Nairobi. A VPS is bought for uptime and for independence from your own power and connection — which, for a retail account, is where the losses actually come from.

Two things. The machine is in a data centre rather than in your house, so it keeps running through a blackout, a router reboot or a laptop that closed itself. And your own side of the connection — the RDP session between you and your charts — does not have to cross an ocean to reach it.

If minimal latency to the matching engine is your requirement, none of our regions is the answer: Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Lagos are all a long way from LD4 and NY4. Buy this for uptime, shilling billing and a fixed address — or buy a machine beside your broker's venue from someone who has one there.

Every plan includes one dedicated public IPv4 address and a free /64 of IPv6, so your broker sees the same address at every login rather than a different one each time you change network. That is a consistency argument, not a speed argument.

It removes a currency cost you did not choose, and it removes the quiet failure of a foreign-currency card renewal on a server whose entire job is not to stop. You pay in shillings by M-Pesa, bank transfer or card.

Kenya is on East Africa Time, UTC+3, all year with no daylight saving to work around. The London session opens mid-morning EAT and New York in the Kenyan afternoon and evening — which is to say the hours your terminal most needs to be up are the hours you are most likely to be doing something else.
